On the eve of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, we couldn’t resist reposting “The Same Team.”

The film was made four years ago, as part of React, an EU project focussed on challenging hate crime. Young volunteers from Together As One (then Aik Saath) envisaged making a film to show how football can bring people of different backgrounds together. But it was also important to the young people involved that the film should challenge stereotypes around women in football. The young people involved could never have known how much women’s football would take off in the following years – perhaps they played their part in making that happen!

The Storyline – Football Brings Young Women Together

A young mother and a young carer,
A Christian and a Muslim,
A girls that shops for modesty and her friend, who prefers outrageous nails.
Black, White, Asian and Middle Eastern, they live in the same Slough community.
They are friends and they are on the same team.

A counter narrative to the position that says segregation is inevitable.
